Carmel Students Participate in a Panel Discussion on “The Present-Day

Relevance and Inevitability of Translating Knowledge Texts”

Students of Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, participated in a panel discussion on “The Present-Day Relevance and Inevitability of Translating Knowledge Texts”. This opportunity provided select English Major and Minor student of the Odd Semesters to have an exposure to the activities of IMB, Panjim in order to foster student development and enhance institutional quality. It was aimed to orient students towards translational activities conducted at the state level in Goa.
Accompanied by Dr. Glenis Mendonca from the Department of English, seven students from First Year BA and Third Year BA (English) attended this Panel discussion held at IMB Mini Hall, Panjim on 28th June 2026. The Panel discussion was chaired by Former Professor and Head, Department of English of Goa University, Dr. Kiran J. Budkuley. The panellists included Dr. Ramprasad Joshi and Dr. Madhusudan Joshi, Dr. Glenis Mendonca, Dr. Akshata Bhat and Ph.D. scholar Sanjana Manerkar. The discussion focussed on around the use of technology and AI to aid the translation of knowledge texts, the inevitability and urgency of translation of knowledge texts in the era of NEP 2020, and the focus on IKS and indigenous languages.
The event was followed by the release of a Konkani translation of an English book “Vedanta and the Modern World and other Indological Essays” by Dr. V. Nithyanant Bhat, translated by Dr. Aditi Budkuley into Konkani as “Adhunik Vishwant Vedant ani Her Bharatvidyadi Nibandha”.

Constituents and Contours : Exploring the Foundations of Konkani Literature

To strengthen the background of Goan Literature initiatives related to student development and institutional quality enhancement in the light of NEP 2020, Dr. Glenis Mendonca, Associate Professor, Department of English, along with TYBA students Ms. Sariah Costa and Ms. Ambika Morajkar, attended a One Day Symposium organized by TSKK and Sahitya Akademi on ‘The Fundamental Constituents of Konkani Literature’ at The Thomas Stephen’s Konkani Kendra Auditorium in Porvorim on 27th June 2026.

The event began with a welcome address by Mr. Om P. Nagar, Program Officer, the Regional Office of Sahitya Akademi, Mumbai. In his introductory address, Director of TSKK, Dr. Pandurang Phaldessai, urged the students and symposium invitees to make the best use of the opportunities provided by the TSKK and the Sahitya Akademi to gain new knowledge about the constituents of the Konkani language, which is a part of the Eighth Schedule of our Constitution. This was followed by an informative keynote address by Dr. Kiran J. Budkuley, former head and Professor of the Dept. of English, Goa University, who spanned the various constituents of the Konkani literary canvas, ranging from poetry, prose, and drama, among others. 


In the first session, papers were presented on various topics spanning from spirituality to folklore. Fr. Mousinho de Ataide spoke on Religious Literature, which emphasized the Catholic faith, while Dr. Jayanti Naik presented her paper on Oral Literature and Folk traditions in Goa, in Konkani.


In the post- lunch session, three informative and research- driven papers were presented by illustrious scholars. Dr. Fr. Luis Gomes presented his paper on mythological literature, Mr. Mukesh Thali spoke on Lexicon Literature in Konkani, and Dr. Fr. Victor Ferrao presented an elaborate paper on philosophical literature. The session was chaired by Prof. Manoj Kamat, Principal of Dempo College, Cujira.


The Symposium ended with a valedictory function and the distribution of certificates.
