Connecting Across Generations: A Day of Music, Smiles, and Service

Connecting Across Generations: A Day of Music, Smiles, and Service

Learning extends far beyond textbooks and lecture halls. On August 4, 2026, the students and staff of the Department of English, Carmel College for Women (Nuvem, Goa), embarked on a heart-warming visit to the Home for the Aged in Nagoa, Verna, managed by the Cluny Sisters.

Organized as part of the college's service-learning initiatives, this outreach gave students the opportunity to connect with the community, and experience the joy of intergenerational bonding.

A Warm Welcome & Spiritual Reflection

The visit was made possible through the kind coordination of Sr. Threcy. Upon arrival, the group was warmly greeted by Sr. Claudia, who invited everyone to start the day with a moment of reflection in the home's peaceful chapel. Together, students and faculty recited the litany to Blessed Anne-Marie Javouhey, the inspiring foundress of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny.

Music, Joy, and 102 Years of Wisdom

Following the prayer, the students spent quality time with all 40 senior resident ladies- including one remarkable resident who is 102 years young!

Music quickly became the universal language of the day as interactive songs were performed by students both in Konkani and English. The room also came alive wiht upbeat Konkani dulpods. Dr. Glenis Mendonca treated the elders to classic hits by Lorna getting many of the residents tapping their feet and swaying along.

Laughter and music filled the space as students held the hands of the residents, dancing, chatting, and bringing smiles to everyone in the room.
