Standing Strong: Unpacking "Integrity at the Workplace"
In the fast evolving world where values are often compromised, values like honesty and conscience stand out as a true markers of character. As part of the weekly Value Education Classes, the Secong Year students across Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce gathered for an interactive session titled, "Integrity at the workplace," led by Associate Professor Dr. Glenis Mendonca.
Dr. Mendonca opened the session by defining the concept of integrity. Far from being just an abstract moral concept, she grounded the definition on practical, day to day values like honesty, sincerity, doing the right thing even when no one is watching, treating all with equality and justice and used the case study method to elicit responses from the students.
A key message of the session was the critical need for personal moral clarity in today's world. In a digital and fast paced professional landscape where issues like plagiarism, dishonesty and intellectual theft are on the rise, preserving one's conscience is more vital than ever. Dr. Mendonca urged students not to fall into the trap of selling out their values for short term gain or allowing their conscience to be silenced by external pressures.
This session saw ethusiastic attendance from students across all three streams, demostrating a shared interest in preparing not just for professional success but also for ethical leadership. It was an inspiring and thought provoking hour that left everyone reflecting on how to build a career rooted in trust, principle and unwavering self respect.
